Adela Ortiz Damian

d. February 9, 2026

Kansas City, Kansas

Adela Ortiz Damian was born on January 18, 1937, in Guanajuato, Mexico. On February 9, 2026, she took her last breath while praying the rosary, surrounded by the love of her family in her home in Kansas City, Kansas.

Resting under the mantle of Our Blessed Mother, she now finds eternal peace.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sidronia Damian; her father, Gabino Ortiz; her beloved daughter, Rosalba Garcia; and her cherished granddaughter, Marlen Garcia.

She is survived by her devoted sons, Francisco Garcia and Manuel Garcia; her nine cherished grandchildren, Rosie, Frankie, Margarita, Jose, Miguel, Vicky, Sonia, Monica, and Julio; her great-grandchildren; her brother and sister; and many nieces, nephews, along with all those she lovingly considered family of the heart.

Adela was a proud and hardworking businesswoman, taking great pride in having owned Lelo’s Taqueria. She carried herself with strength, determination, and grace, setting an example of resilience and dedication for her family.

She lived on Osage Avenue for over 30 years, a place filled with memories, laughter, and love. She especially cherished sitting on her front porch, watching the world go by, greeting neighbors, and enjoying the simple peace of home.

She found joy in life’s simple blessings like tending to her flower garden, savoring her morning coffee, visiting the casino, and treasure-hunting at thrift stores.

She often said she was “like a mango… wrinkled, but sweet,” and that is exactly how we will remember her. When we would say, “We’ll see you later,” she would answer, “If God wills it.” Though we miss her deeply, we find comfort in knowing she now rests in eternal peace…and if God wills it, we will see her again.
