Arley Herbert Clark passed quietly on March 7th, 2023 at Care Haven Homes in Overland Park, Kansas at the age of 96. He was born in 1927 in Lawrence, KS, son of Arley Harris Clark and Grace Opal Carley Clark.
Arley graduated from Miltonvale high school, where he met Glyde, his future wife. He was drafted to serve in the US military in 1945 at the age of 18 where he trained at Fort McLellan near Anniston, Alabama before he was deployed to the Pacific in the months following V-J Day. He was stationed near Kyoto with the 21st Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company attached to the 8th Army and was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of Technician Third Grade.
After his military service was completed, he married Glyde Lavern Blackwood on June 19, 1949. They moved to Kansas City where Arley worked as a carpet salesman. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage and were blessed with 3 biological children, 3 foster children, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Because of their compassion for others they touched numerous people, generously opening their home, and leading loving, Christ-centered lives. Most of his volunteer work was centered in his church, The Light KC. For many decades, Arley gave his time and support to Gideons International and M2 prison ministry.
Arley is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Glyde, his sisters Neva Benton, Peggy French, Eunice Bledsoe, and brother Jim Clark as well as foster daughter, Themla Seddon. He is survived by sister Opal Dean, brother Stanley Clark, daughters Glydene Clark MD, Arylene Clark-Wilson, Pamela Pulliam, foster daughters Sue Katz-Amburn PhD, Dorthy (Dot) Kirby, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, North 6th St., Clay Center, KS, 67432, on May 26th, 2023 at 11 am. His funeral will be at The Light KC Church, 10001 W 88th St., OP, KS, 66212 on May 27, 2023 at 10 am.
