Dolores (Dee) Ann DeMeese was born to Albert Felix DeMeese and Margaret Rose (Zarda) DeMeese on June 3, 1943. She grew up in Merriam, KS, and she became an older sister to Albert DeMeese (Judy) and Rose Marie Macan (Frank). She is survived by her two siblings and their children, Chad (Danielle, daughters Madeline and Chloe), Jason (Lisa), Kate (Tim, son Frank) and Molly (Justin, daughter Hope).
Dee completed an Associates degree at Donnelly College and worked many years at TWA, and she ultimately retired from Layne Christensen Company as an Executive Administrative Assistant. Dee was a social butterfly and made friends wherever she went. Many of her lifelong friendships were forged over lunch outings on the Plaza with coworkers.
Dee enjoyed gardening and especially took pride in and great care of her cactus plants. Dee was well known for her baking and would craft delicious pies and cakes that she enjoyed sharing with family and friends. She had an affinity for sweet treats of all sorts and especially enjoyed seasonal candies, including Peeps. Dee enjoyed dining out at restaurants, and her nieces fondly remember many special moments with her at Tippin’s, Houlihan’s and Strouds.
Dee was lucky to reconnect with her high school sweetheart, Terry Breck, and they were married in 2008. Dee spent many happy years with Terry and their two cats, Annie and Harley. They were avid doll collectors and participated in several of Kansas City’s Doll clubs. Dee was so passionate about dolls that she even had a personalized license plate for her car that was doll themed.
Dee had many roles in her lifetime: daughter, spouse, sister, coworker and friend. Her most important role was that of aunt. She adored her nephews and nieces and attended countless volleyball matches, softball games, piano concerts, and even came for college move-in day. Dee was more than an aunt, she was a bonus mom.
Dee had a radiant smile and a big tent personality. She never met a stranger, and she knew how to soak up every moment. Dee enjoyed being around people. In her kitchen hung a cross stitch she made: People are like plants, love them and they will grow. Thank you, Dee, for teaching us a bit more about how to love better.
