Frank L. Bates

Frank L. Bates, 82, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away April 12, 2025. Joyce, his wife of 61 years, family, and friends were with him.

Frank was born in Medford, Oregon on December 6, 1942 to L.C. and Martha Bates. He grew up in Humphrey, Arkansas with his parents, siblings, and a large extended family. He was a graduate of Humphrey High School in 1961. Frank married the former Joyce McNeely of Stuttgart, Arkansas in November 1963. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Overland Park, Kansas, to join the rest of the family. LC had been transferred by his employer, Fairbanks Morse, from Stuttgart to Kansas City earlier that year. Frank was employed by Simmons USA in the Fairfax district of Kansas City, Kansas for many years. He later worked and retired from the Kansas City, Kansas Public Works.

Frank loved working outdoors in his yard or on his truck and walking his dog, Cash. He played fast pitch softball for years with local Kansas City, Kansas teams.

Frank is survived by his wife, Joyce Bates of Kansas City, Ks, his son, Kenny Bates of Kansas City, Ks, brother Rick Bates (Lana) of Joplin, Mo., brother Phil Bates (Shirley) of Olathe, Ks., sister Carol Goucher (Mike) of Ft. Scott, Ks., sister-in-law Virginia Bates of Shawnee, Ks., aunt Yvonne Kinley (Bill) of Jacksonville, Fl., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, LC and Martha Bates, and his brother, Dee Bates.

Frank was a faithful Christian and a member of Full Faith Church of Love in Shawnee, KS. He was a peaceful, kind soul with a great sense of humor. Frank never met a stranger and was always ready to help a friend in need.

Frank, your life on earth has ended, but your life in heaven has just begun. Until we meet again, we love and miss you dearly. Rest in peace!

Frank was cremated.
