Gail Marie Yurgel

Gail Marie (Robertson) Yurgel, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, in Shawnee, Kansas, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Gail was born on July 23, 1951, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Voleda and Chester Robertson. She spent more than 40 years in Kansas City, Kansas, where she shared her life with John Yurgel, her beloved husband of 36 years. John preceded her in death on December 13, 2010.

Gail was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Chet, Gary, Mike, and Barry. She is survived by her sisters, Sue and Linda, and her brother Alan.

She is also survived by her five children: Tracy Cooper; Travis (Shellee) Shirley; Melissa (Jim) Jackson; Mathew Valentine; and Jenah (Kevin) Wilmeth; along with 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Gail loved crocheting and baking, and she often used these talents as a way of giving to others. Through the things she made and shared, she found meaningful ways to show her care for people.

No services will be held at this time. The family plans to hold a private graveside gathering at Leavenworth National Cemetery once arrangements for her inurnment have been finalized, and she is laid to rest beside her husband.
