Janice Marie Fraas

d. May 15, 2026

Overland Park

Janice Marie Fraas, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at the age of 82.

She was born on November 17, 1943, to Joseph Stamfel and Dorothy Klements-Stamfel, and was raised on Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas—a place she held close to her heart throughout her life. She took great pride in her Croatian and Slovenian heritage, a legacy she cherished and carried with her always.

A proud graduate of Bishop Ward High School, Class of 1961, she entered the workforce immediately after graduation, beginning her career with G. Bartling Insurance Agency as a secretary and later continuing her work at the Jack Saggert Agency. She was deeply involved in the Insurance Women of Greater Kansas City and served as President in 1973.

On June 3, 1967, she married the love of her life, Frank X. Fraas. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and community. On January 30, 1977, they welcomed their son, Joseph Edward Fraas, a moment that brought her immense joy and deepened her lifelong devotion to family.

She was a devoted and active member of the Rockhurst Mother’s Group and gave generously of her time and energy to others. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life—she was a member of the Church of Nativity for 38 years and faithfully prayed the Rosary nearly every day, always for the intentions of others before herself.

She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader, a passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan and season ticket holder since the 1970s, and a Kansas Jayhawks fan. She especially loved time at Lake of the Ozarks, where she created countless memories entertaining family and friends.

Above all, she was devoted to her family and to everyone she welcomed into her life. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering love will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her brother, Joseph P. Stamfel, as well as her loving husband Frank X. Fraas, son Joseph E. Fraas and daughter-in-law Karla R. Fraas, and grandchildren Nicholas X. and Gabrielle C. Fraas.

Funeral Mass will be held at The Church of the Nativity at 3800 W. 119th St, Leawood, KS at 11:00 am with a rosary at 9:30 am with visitation to follow on Friday, May 29th. Burial 2pm at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Sister Servants of Mary https://sisterservantsofmary.org

Her legacy of faith, love, and generosity will live on in all who knew her.
