Louis Hernandez, age 85, of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully on Saturday, January
10, 2026. Born August 7, 1940, in Kansas City, KS, he was a loving Son, Brother, Husband,
Father, and Grandfather. He was a proud Veteran having served in the Army as a young adult.
Early in his career he was a butcher, later becoming a postal worker until his retirement. He was
a longtime resident of Kansas City’s Westside neighborhood and supported his community as a
member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club.
During his retirement, Louie found great joy in spending quality time with his family, especially
cherishing the moments he spent caring for his grandchildren. He took delight in simple
pleasures, often savoring a good cheeseburger and a cold “root beer”.
Known for his warm and loving nature, Louie touched the lives of all those around him with his
infectious sense of humor. He was always quick with a joke or a heartfelt story, bringing
laughter and happiness to both family and friends. His unique ability to find humor in any
situation was a defining trait, one that continued to endear him to everyone he encountered,
even in his final days.
Louie was also a gifted artist who found joy in expressing himself through sketching and
painting. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Louie delighted in cooking for his family and friends.
He often prepared meals that brought everyone together, turning everyday moments into
cherished memories around the table.
He found entertainment in classic horror movies, was an avid reader of mystery novels, and
took pleasure in listening to “oldies” music—Elvis Presley being a particular favorite. His love of
outdoors started as a youth and he relished opportunities to go fishing with his family. Louie was
a loyal fan of the KC Royals and Chiefs, and Sporting KC but he especially enjoyed supporting
his grandchildren by attending their team games, always cheering them on with pride and
excitement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, and his loving wife of over fifty
years, Mary L. (Miranda) Hernandez and their infant son, Alfred Hernandez. He is survived by
his children, Elizabeth (Charles) Rios, Robert (Dawn) Hernandez, Phyllis Hernandez and Mollie
Michelle Bix, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his
sister, Rosalie Worrell; his brother, Manuel Hernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
