Marta Ann Buser

d. November 3, 2025

Overland Park

Marta Ann Buser, 68, went home to be with the Lord on November 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and Sister Lucero of the Sister Servants of Mary, after a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer.

Born on February 2, 1957, Marta grew up in Overland Park and attended Shawnee Mission South High School. She went on to study for two years at Kansas State University, where she met the love of her life, Bill Buser. Marta later continued her nursing studies at the University of Kansas Medical Center while Bill pursued his medical degree. The two were married in 1978 and shared 47 wonderful years together.

Marta worked as a nurse in Kansas City and Columbus, Ohio, before devoting herself fully to raising their children. She returned to nursing in 2005, working with Bill at Gastrointestinal Associates until they retired in 2016.

Her most cherished role was being a mother to Matt, Billy, and Katie. She poured her heart into her family—volunteering at her children’s schools, serving as Athletic Director at Cure of Ars Catholic School, and even coaching track and field. She never missed a game or a milestone, always ready to cheer, encourage, and—on occasion—offer her spirited opinions to coaches and referees.

When grandchildren arrived, Marta’s joy multiplied. She created magical holidays and lasting traditions, making each grandchild feel special through birthday sleepovers, dinners, and shopping trips with “Bubba and Granddad.” Their many trips to Branson are memories that the grandchildren will treasure forever. Her love, energy, and warmth filled every moment she shared with her family.

Affectionately known as “Bubba,” she leaves the following life advice for her grandchildren and for all:

Grow in your love of the Lord. Keep Him front and center. Always Jesus! He gave us a roadmap—just follow it. Use your intellect, not your emotions. Think of the consequences. Put the pros and cons on paper and decide if it’s worth it. On love … love deeply. Forgive easily. Look deep into their heart. Make sure they love the Lord. Keep God first … and things fall into place!

In July 2023, Marta was diagnosed with glioblastoma, and she faced her illness with remarkable grace, courage, and faith—never complaining or asking, “Why me?” In the fall of 2024, Marta formed a group to pray the rosary, starting with about eight members and growing to more than forty. Meeting once a week, the rosary was prayed at the Buser home, most recently four days prior to her passing.

Marta was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Musick; her mother- and father-in-law, Katy and H.P. Buser; brothers-in-law Bob Buser and Ken Latimer; and niece Yona Julian.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill; her beloved children and their spouses, Matt and Jennifer Buser, Billy and Jackie Buser, and Katie and Tommy Lewis; and her adored grandchildren Ben and Beau Buser, Will, Johnny, Joey, and Annie Buser, and Aspen, Rosie, and Tucker Lewis.

Marta is also survived by her father, Matt Musick; sisters Nancy (Michael) Czinege and Susie Hopkins; in-laws Terri Murphy, Joanne (Lon) Warner, Becky (Ken) Brown, Mary (Carl) Gills, Carolyn Latimer, John (Ann) Buser, and Loretta (Bob) Huff; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She also leaves behind countless friends whose lives were deeply touched by her kindness and generosity.

Marta will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her selfless spirit, and her endless capacity to love. She was generous with her time, her talents, and her heart—and her legacy will live on in the family and friends who loved her so dearly.

The family would like to thank the Sister Servants of Mary and Catholic Community Hospice for the outstanding care, love, and prayers that they provided to Marta in the last months of her life.
