May Vang, age 83 passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on
February 2, 1940 in Phu Voos, Xiengkhouang, Laos. May married her husband Chia Chang in 1957. On
November 25, 1978, May and Chia along with their children immigrated to Providence, Rhode Island.
Their time in Rhode Island was brief as they moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1979 to be closer to
relatives and has since resided here. She was very passionate about sewing Hmong paajntaub and
tending to her vegetable gardens before she fell ill in 2000. She loved her family and was blessed
enough to see and love on her great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Txhaj Kiv
Vaaj and Lwm Hawj, husband of 62 years Chia Chang Xiong, siblings Tooj Choj, Nchaiv Laum, Xaiv Ntaaj,
Paiv, and children Xyooj, Phuab, Tooj, and Leej. May is survived by her children Cher Toua (Tang), Pang
Xang (Sheila), Mo (Wang Chou), Brian (Mikki), Blong (Tong), and Chong (Jefferson). She is also survived
by 39 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Altogether, there are 77 members in her family.
Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and
Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Faith Deliverance Worship Center, 3043 State Ave,
Kansas City, Kansas 66102. Committal Service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 10:00 AM at
Chapel Hill Cemetery, 701 N. 94th St, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. May Vang will be greatly missed by her
family and friends.
