Patricia Hopkins passed away peacefully on the morning of July 18th, 2025, after being cared for at AdventHealth Hospital by KC Hospice. Despite a difficult childhood, Pat, as she was called but those who knew her, retained a generous and loving heart. That generosity and love were felt by all who knew her: her sister, her brother-in-law, her nephew, her colleagues, her neighbors, her pets, and even needy strays.
Pat’s giving spirit motivated her to become a nurse; first, caring for the dying by working with hospice and later as a night call nurse at Children’s Mercy Hospital. It was here that Pat felt she found an incredible work family, working side by side with her colleagues to aid frightened parents and sick children. One of her great life achievements was winning the Daisy award for nursing, honoring her specific work in caring for patients. In her acceptance speech, Pat spoke about how this award while given to her was in fact for the entire department of night call nurses who always supported each other. Even in a moment celebrating her own achievement, Pat wanted to remind everyone that nursing and caring for others is a team effort.
Pat is survived by her sister, Donna, her brother-in-law, Owen, and her nephew, Jeremy, who she spoiled rotten and loved unconditionally. She is also survived by her two cats, Cali and Smore, who were her kids. In lieu of a service or flowers, the family would love if donations could be made in Pat’s name to her friend, Eunice Mollett’s charity Four Kids for Kritters. https://www.fourkidsforkritters.com
