Patty Nelson

Patty Nelson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Meemo), and sister, passed away on January 7, 2024, in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on July 8, 1959, in Emporia, Kansas. 

Patty dedicated her entire career to the insurance industry, where she made a lasting impact and gained the respect of her colleagues. 

Outside of work, Patty had a passion for sewing and recently took up crocheting. She found great joy in watching her grandchildren, Colby Dark and Sawyer Nelson, play sports and was always there to cheer them on. Patty was a loving and doting grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandkids whether it was getting Baskin Robbins with Colby or reading to and spending time outside with Sawyer.

In her free time, Patty loved to camp and boat at the lake, creating lasting memories with her family and friends. She cherished the moments spent on family trips, where she found happiness in exploring new places and creating bonds with her loved ones. 

Patty is survived by her loving husband, Mark Nelson, who stood by her side through thick and thin. She is also survived by her daughter, Stephanie Dark, and her son, Aaron Nelson, as well as her daughter-in-law, Laura Nelson. 

Patty will be deeply missed by her siblings, Rick and Tamera McGrew, Michael and Sharon McGrew, and Cathy McGrew and also by her niece Bailey McGrew. 

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Judy and Donald, her brother Scott, her grandson, Grayson and nieces Madison and Kristi. 

Patty will be remembered for her kind heart, selfless nature, and unwavering love and devotion to her family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to have known her. 

 A memorial service to celebrate Patty's life will be held at Powell Community Center (6200 Martway, Mission, KS) on February 2, 2024 from 5pm to 8:30pm.

 May her soul rest in eternal peace.
