Phoua Vang, 74, passed away unexpectedly on September 17, 2023 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on October 24, 1948 in Laos and married her husband, Song Ying Xiong, in March 1966. Phoua came to The United States with her husband in 1976 and eventually settled in Kansas City, Kansas in 1980. Phoua worked at Argosy Casino for many years until her retirement in 2013 and was a faithful member of New Life Fellowship Church in Kansas City, Kansas.
Those who knew her, even briefly, knew her for her kindness and generosity. She loved to give and share whatever she had with others. She showed a genuine care for others. She also loved her children and grandchildren very much and was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. A role that she loved and cherished. Among her friends, she was known for her willingness to help them unselfishly. She also loved to serve the members of her church through her many acts of service. Whether it was a word of encouragement, a handsewn gift, a hug, an affectionate embrace or her homemade tofu which was known throughout the community, she loved to give and serve others. She will be truly missed not just by her family but by all who knew her.
Phoua is preceded in death by her father Nhia Kang Vang and mother Gao Lu Xiong, step-mother Paag Moua, son Bee Xiong, daughter Lia Xiong and daughter Yu Xiong.
Phoua leaves behind five children and eleven grandchildren: Tou Vu Xiong and wife Pang Xiong with five children Sophia, Noah, Madelyn, Luke and Ken; Jack Xiong; Sarad and husband Mike Yang with Elle and Ian Yang; Sandy and husband Ly Her with Emery and Elise Her; May Lee and husband Jesse Heu with Hudson and Eliana Heu. As well as her two brothers Long Vang and Soua Vang and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Olathe Christian Church on October 7-8, 2023 from 5:00PM-7:00PM. Burial Services will be at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on October 9, 2023 from 10:00AM-11:00AM. Interment to immediately follow.
