Robert E. Baker, Sr. passed away with family by his side on July 7th, 2023. He was born March 22, 1936 in Atchison. The son of John G. and Maude Baker. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1954. He was married to Rose K. Meier, September 3, 1960, Topeka. She survives.
Bob worked for Southwestern Bell and AT&T for 31 years before he retired in November 1987. He was past president of the Communications Workers of America Local 6401 Topeka. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Meriden. He was the Charter Grand Knight and member of the St. Aloysius Knights of Columbus Council 7426 Meriden. He was a member of the James W. Gibbons Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Topeka. He served his carpenter apprenticeship through Local 1445 Topeka. He was also a volunteer at KU Medical Center, St. Francis Campus. He was honorably discharged from the Kansas National Guard in 1962.
Survivors include two sons: Robert Baker, Jr. (Donna) Tescott, KS, Randy Baker (Jennifer) Topeka. Two Daughters: Reggie Baker (Kim), Topeka and Renee Green (Kyle), Lawrence. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren. One sister, Barbara Pickles, Lompoc, California.
Bob was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Rita Frisbie, and infant brother, John.
Services will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Meriden on Monday, July 10, 2023. Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Chalice Service, 1:30pm with Funeral Mass at 2:00pm. Burial to follow at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Meriden.
