Sheng Her was born on September 6, 1938 in Bouatong (Npuam Thoos), Xiengkhouang Province, Laos to
Txwj Txhim Her and Ntsum Moua. She passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025 peacefully at her home
surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and loved ones. She was 86 years old when she was called
by her Creator to go Home.
Sheng was the youngest of 8 children. She had four older brothers and three older sisters.
Sheng’s father passed away when she was young. She grew up with her mother and elder brothers. She
married Nou Cha Yang, who preceded in death in September 2019. They left behind 9 children, 22
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Born into the mountain of Laos, Sheng grew up in the farm and helped her mother and siblings planted,
weeded, and harvested rice from a very young age. Throughout the Vietnam War, where her husband
was one of the many SGU soldiers, she farmed to support her family while her husband was away.
Sheng was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother. Her way of showing her love was through
food. Whenever one of child comes by her house, she always asked them if they have eaten and would
set the table for a meal. Although she never worked, she never rest and can always be found tending to
her garden, doing yard work with her husband, and taken care of her household and helping with
grandchildren. She came to the United States with her husband Nou Cha and family in 1989.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1953 and baptized in 1963. She loved singing, reading her
Bible, prayed for her children, and attended church. Singing praises to her Lord and Savior and praying
are her two favorite things in life. She inspired her grandchildren to sing and do God’s work. She was an
active church member of the Kansas City Hmong Alliance Church that her husband Nou Cha Yang co-
founded until she passed away.
In April 24, 2022, Sheng suffered a hemorrhage stroke, which left her entire right side completely
paralyzed. She never fully recovered. She relied completely on her children for the last three years and
four months of her life. This left her sad and angry at times. She suffered countless loses in her life,
which left her a very independent woman. She taught her children love, compassion, kindness,
gentleness, generosity, and many other things in life. She’s the discipliner, whereas her husband was
the enforcer. She taught her children to love and give back to God. At an early age, she taught her
children to give to God the very best from their earthly materials. She tithe to God faithfully. She was a
protector, guider, and great friend to many. She guided her children to walk in the path of Jesus Christ.
