Susan Marie Albon

d. April 25, 2023

Kansas City

Susan Marie (Irwin) Albon was born at Norfolk Navel Hospital-Virginia, to James and Nancy Irwin on July 4, 1954. She is survived by husband Gary Albon; daughter Celia Jan Albon and her three sisters: Sharon, Donna, and Virginia. She has numerous aunts and uncles, still in Eastern Pennsylvania. Her most fond being Aunt Betty and Auntie Jean Eagles, who are long with the Lord.

She spent her entire youth schooling, working, and growing up in Coatesville, Chester County, Pennsylvania. She was very proud of playing Wendy in the high school costume play, “Peter Pan”. She attended Hepzibah Grade School, East Fallowfield Middle School, and Coatesville Area Senior High (CASH). Being a Cum Laude graduate helped her enroll in Temple University-Philadelphia. She even received a recommendation to attend medical school, but was unable to attend due to a lack of sponsorship.

She was a self-taught flautist and loved the arts; The Nutcracker Ballet, Vivaldi, The Four Seasons, Steeleye Span, and even tolerated my Beatles guitar strumming. “The Long and Winding Road” was her most favorite. Of course, Brit-Coms and spy movies engaged her mind and mine also. She grew up next to Andrew Wyeth’s art studio and loved his works.

She worked at Pepperidge Farm Cookie Factory in Coatesville with her aunt and sister, while attending Chester County Hospital School of Nursing in West Chester, PA. She graduated in 1983 with Honors while working simultaneously in Labor and Delivery. During our marriage, she made a lot of critical decisions that needed to be made that I was very thankful for; she would have made a great doctor. Instead, she sacrificed herself to be a Christian mom and homeschool teacher to our lovely, faithful daughter, Celia Jan.

Susan was born again and baptized as a young girl at Hepzibah Baptist Church, thanks to the faithful work of the Freese and March families. We met and were married at West Chester Bible Baptist Church in 1983. Almost 40 years ago. Sometimes she would refer to me as her first husband!

We moved to Kansas City where she worked at Menorah Medical Center, Children’s Mercy, Spellman, Western Missouri Health, and eventually graduated from Mid America Nazarene College (MANC) in 1994, Cum Laude, BSN. Sometimes her instructors would even ask her to teach the class when they were absent! One instructor even announced to the class that he did not give out “A” grades, but to Susan, he would. Her term papers are something to read.

Hawaii was her favorite place to visit; the flowers, the air, the marine surf, the food, the sights, and all of that Aloha spirit.

Dearest Susan suffered with many ailments, but slipped away peacefully, in little pain, with family by her side at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City Hospital on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.  Funeral visitation will be Thursday, May 04, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at KC Funeral Directors, 4880 Shawnee Drive, KC, KS.  Private burial at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Praising God always, “With faith, taking God at His Word”.

Well, Aloha to all until we meet again. Never goodbye, just farewell until Heaven.

~Gary Albon, Loving and Grateful Husband
