William “Bill” L. Fletcher Jr., 72, passed away on May 3, 2026. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Bill made his home in Ottawa, Kansas, where he was a well-known and valued member of the community.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and later dedicated his career to the Kansas Highway Patrol. He then became a perfusionist at KU Medical Center. After retirement, he continued to stay active and connected with his community through his work at his local Walmart. Bill also became a minister and generously offered his services to those in need, serving his community at the Hope House.
Bill had a deep love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and found joy in the freedom of the open road. Above all, he had an extraordinary love for animals. He often referred to them as his “kids,” and caring for them was truly his passion.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol J. Fletcher; his father, William “Bill” L. Fletcher Sr.; and his sister, Teresa Loveall.
He is survived by his mother, Clara L. Gibbs; two brothers; two sisters; his daughter, Amanda “Mandi” (Tommy Rosecrans);his beloved granddaughters, Lilliauna and Aubriauna; and several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
A celebration of life will be held at Ottawa Community Church on Saturday, May 16, at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, Mandi asks that donations of cat or dog food, toys, leashes, collars or blankets be brought to the service, which will be donated to local animal shelters in honor of Bill’s love for animals.
Bill will be remembered for his generous heart, his dedication to serving others, and the deep love he shared with both people and animals. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
